I am so excited to share this photoshoot I was a part of earlier this year! And the best part is that it was featured on Inspired By This! So exciting.
I loved everything about this shoot from the moody florals to the polka dot dress.
I loved the dress so much I decided to mimic the design onto the cake. Also I just had to make a sugar Dahlia because they are a favorite of mine.
This team was incredibly talented and I am honored to have worked with them. Now here are the photos!

I hope you’ve heard about the Wedding Cake Im giving away in 2014 with the Utah Wedding Contest! If not, I’ll tell you all about it because it is awesome.
When Ali Brown Studios and Elizabeth Coopers Boutique approached me about participating in this wedding giveaway I was so excited. Of course I had to be a part of it! If 2014 is the year you are getting married you are going to want to enter this contest, trust me.
This is your chance for a FREE WEDDING! You get the venue, florals, hair and makeup, the dress, jewelry, catering, the wedding video, the DJ, and The Wedding Cake by me, just to name a few. And you get it all for free. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! Go to www.utahweddingcontest.com and enter to win.
Now lets talk about the cake. I will be giving the winner a two tier, buttercream wedding cake that serves 45 people, with one statement piece. The statement piece could be a sugar flower (like in the photo), some lace detail, or a beautiful pipped design. I will be happy to work with the winner on designing her perfect cake.
The cake will be beautiful, even better than this gorgeous cake. Seriously, go enter the contest right now, www.utahweddingcontest.com.
This cake might be one of my favorite cakes that I’ve made so far. I love the simplicity of it and I love the white lace on top of the white fondant. Plus she wanted a chocolate cake with caramel buttercream. So delicious!
Ashbee is the niece of a family friend and she lives in Wyoming. So this cake made a three hour journey to Wyoming on the lap of her mother, who happened to be in Utah the morning of the wedding. Her mom and aunt offered to transport the cake, and it made the trip safely and looked beautiful when it got there. Everyone was happy, especially me. It was kind of hard to give up the control of delivering the cake but they both did an awesome job. And once I knew the cake was at the reception I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
A special thanks to my second family, the Parkers, for letting me steal some roses off of their rose bush. Ashbee was going to put her own flowers on the cake once it arrived to Wyoming. So, these are my substitute flowers.

Sugar flowers are my favorite part of decorating cakes. I love making new kinds of flowers and trying to make them look as real as possible. I even love making the whimsical flowers. Making sugar flowers is relaxing to me and it’s fun. I always love when people ask me to make the flowers for their cake because it’s a challenge. A really great challenge. Im always trying to get better, to make more realistic looking flowers.
This cake was made of alternating layers of yellow cake and chocolate cake. One of my all time favorite cake flavor combos is yellow cake and milk chocolate ganache frosting…so good.
The sugar mums were an experiment. I actually think they turned out really nice. Next time I make them I think I can get them looking even better.
Peonies are going to be big again this year, I can tell. People love them. I love them. If you asked me to make them for you, I would say yes.
