This cake was for Kaitlin’s late spring wedding. She said she wanted ruffles, peonies, and red velvet cake. I asked her if I could make the peonies out of sugar…and she said yes! I was so excited because I love making sugar flowers, especially when it is one I haven’t ever made before. I love the process of figuring out what looks the best. This flower was a labor of love that’s for sure. Each peony has at least 25 petals and each layer needs to dry for a little while before you put the next layer of petals on. I loved every minute of it though!
This is what we came up with! I think it’s a winner.
Red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting. Ruffles. Sugar peonies. What’s not to love?
